CALL FOR PAPERS | VIENNA YEARBOOK OF POPULATION RESEARCH

Population and Climate Change: The Defining Relationship of the 21st Century
The Vienna Yearbook of Population Research (VYPR) is seeking submissions for a Special Issue entitled “Population and Climate Change: The Defining Relationship of the 21st Century”, which will be guest edited by Roman Hoffmann, Liliana Andriano, Marion Borderon, Kathryn Grace, Tobias Rüttenauer, and Erich Striessnig.
Anthropogenic climate change represents a major threat to human livelihoods, health, and well-being worldwide. Efforts to both mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the impacts of rising global temperatures are urgently required. Populations are at the centre of these processes. Not only are human activities and resulting emissions the main driver of climate change, but populations are also directly affected by its consequences with different world regions, population subgroups and generations facing differential risks. This calls for an understanding of the heterogeneous contributions of populations to climate change, as well as the differential vulnerabilities to its impacts. This Special Issue will address the close reciprocal relationships between population and climate change and propose evidence-based policy solutions to building sustainable and resilient societies.
Potential topics for submissions include:
● Population trends and implications for sustainability
● Population, energy, and greenhouse gas emissions
● Population, natural resources, and food and water security
● Differential vulnerability and adaptive capacity
● Climate change and reproductive behaviour
● Climate change and mortality, health, and wellbeing
● Climate change and migration
Please submit your full paper by 31 March 2023. All submissions will be subject to external double-blind peer review. Articles are going to be published in two steps: online first, as soon as the reviewing process for each contribution is finalised, and subsequently in the printed journal. Printed copies of the special issues are available annually in full colour, generally towards the end of the calendar year.
The VYPR is a platinum open-access journal published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2003. Article submission, processing, and publication are free of charge. The journal is circulated in print and online with all articles included in the RePeC and the JSTOR database.
